La Posada Continuing Care Retirement Community
Community first, community forward.
La Posada is guided by its mission "to maximize the well-being of seniors" and had many successes to celebrate in 2021.
Continued high occupancy and high resident satisfaction reflect trust in staff, management, and our Board's leadership. With nearly 100% of residents and staff fully vaccinated, pre-pandemic programs and services have been resumed. Seventeen new Pavilion homes were completed and all but one occupied by year-end. Excitement is growing as construction documents, and marketing efforts are being finalized to build a second La Posada campus in Oro Valley, Arizona. In addition, La Posada continued to support its community partners, such as the Green Valley Fire District and the Sahuarita and Green Valley Food Banks.

La Posada is a 501(c)3 award-winning senior living community.
Progress continues on the La Posada at Pusch Ridge development, with approval received from the Town Council of Oro Valley in June of an updated Conceptual Architecture plan for the beautiful 80-acre community. Property owned by La Posada west of North Oracle Road at First Avenue and Lambert in Oro Valley is an ideal setting for the development of another campus for Green Valley's award-winning senior living provider.
An earlier plan for development of the Oro Valley property was put on hold mid-2018 due to critical shortages of construction sub-contractors and uncertainty of key materials.
Much of the initial site work has been completed on the 80-acre parcel. La Posada management and representatives are in ongoing contact with Town of Oro Valley officials to move the project design toward final approval for construction. In the two years since the original project was halted, La Posada's management team has been updating concepts to enhance the design, construction quality, and livability of the project.
Final design approvals and groundbreaking of La Posada at Pusch Ridge are now expected in early spring, with an opportunity in the coming weeks for local seniors to participate in a Priority Sales Program, to learn more about reserving a residence in the new community. Move-ins are planned to begin in late 2024.
"We are excited about development of our second campus, with an opportunity to offer a new and wonderful lifestyle option for the residents of the Oro Valley area," said Simon Davis, Chair of the La Posada Board of Trustees. The La Posada organization is led by Joni Condit, President and CEO.

"Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever." ―
In 2000, La Posada resident Wendell Bowers shared an idea with others at La Posada…
"Wouldn't be great if we could launch a scholarship program here at La Posada for the employees."
No one at the time realized what a terrific idea this was. His vision was to have a scholarship program that supported employees of La Posada in an array of educational areas to unleash their full potential.
The first scholarship was granted in 2000 in the amount of $500 to one individual. Wendell Bowers didn't give up. He continued to sell the program to La Posada residents and continued to raise funds to support it. Today, the La Posada Scholarship program gives La Posada employees financial assistance to pursue educational opportunities to fulfill their dreams.
In 2021, the La Posada Scholarship program awarded 51 employees a total of $118,779 in educational assistance toward earning a college degree, professional development certifications or continuing education, English as a Second Language class, GED Training, US Citizenship testing, and Certified Nursing Assistance training.
The La Posada Scholarship Committee operates this program with assistance from the Posada Life Foundation staff members. The La Posada Scholarship Program offers three types of scholarship assistance to employees: regular scholarships, high school scholarships for teenage employees, and endowment scholarships.
Thank you to all past and present La Posada residents who have given financial and volunteer support to this scholarship program. This program thrives because of your generosity and dedication with helping others achieve prosperity.
Congratulations to all 2021 regular, high school, and endowment scholarship recipients!
To be eligible for the La Posada scholarship program, an employee must have worked at La Posada for 6 months, be in good standing and demonstrate satisfactory academic progress for continued financial support.

La Posada Suspends Operations At Los Niños de Valle Preschool and Adult Day Service Programs.
Effective Monday, March 30, 2020, La Posada will suspend the preschool program at the Los Niños del Valle and the Adult Day program at Posada Life Community Services. Attendees of both programs have been notified, and will also be contacted when the programs can be resumed. Earlier, the Senior Lunch Program announced it will be distributing frozen meals to its regular attendees, rather than eating at the Community Center.
This is the latest of a series of precautionary moves at La Posada to limit the potential spread of the coronavirus, with a population recognized to be at greater risk. Currently, there have been no identified cases of COVID-19 among the residents and staff of La Posada and Posada Life Community Services.
Since the awareness of higher risk levels in early March, La Posada has taken aggressive precautionary measures, including the cancellation of public events and resident gatherings, the restriction of non-essential visitation in Assisted Living and Independent Living areas, the closure of resident dining venues, and has created a new program of 'To Your Door' meal delivery and grocery purchases. There are approximately 750 total residents and some 600 employees at La Posada.
Other public venues at La Posada, including Posada Java, the Green Valley – Sahuarita Family History Library, and the Vensel Treasure Shoppe, suspended operations earlier in the month.
All La Posada staff are being screened daily for COVID-19 symptoms at the start of any work shift. Special employee policies for pandemic sick leave or displaced worker's assistance have been put in place. Limited daycare will continue to be available to assist some essential La Posada employees.
La Posada will keep everyone updated on when Posada Life's Los Niños del Valle preschool and Adult Day Services reopens. Please watch this website and La Posada social media venues for further campus-wide updates.

A SELF-CONTAINED COMMUNITY
is where I am fortunate to live
the last segment of my life—
a community of seven hundred residents
and five hundred employees, like a little town
on this one hundred fifty acres of property,
with all the food and shelter services provided,
three libraries, an observatory, a little store,
along with online shopping for personal needs,
and if I want to go outside my little town
to shop or see doctors or the larger library
I can ride the bus or the van provided
for those purposes.
I can walk or ride on the tram around
the grounds of my little town
for they are some of the most compelling features,
containing pecan trees and green grass
and multi-colored flowers,
walking trails for visiting meditation and poetry
and butterfly gardens, and even a coffee shop
for meeting friends from the larger communities,
ramadas and benches for sitting to rest,
and changing views from mountains to a river,
usually a dry river bed where one could study earth science
or wait for the excitement of water running in rainy weather.
And then the levels of care available if and when I need them—
I am grateful.
